The Wildcats made their postseason debut with a 20-13 win over California in the 1949 Rose Bowl, capping an 8-2 season and, the school hoped, starting a Big Ten dynasty.
Not quite. NU wouldn't return to the postseason until 1996, when it made a dream run to the Rose Bowl before losing to USC 41-32 in Pasadena.
