She was 21 when this was filmed, playing a 17 year old.
A 32 year old lifeguard caught between what he really wants to do
and having to go work for the man. Who hasn't been there?
In 1976 Sam Elliot jump-started his acting career in a major way with his sensitive portrayal of a 32 year-old lifeguard under pressure from his family and friends to question his goals in life. His dad tells him "I keep wondering when you're going to grow up and get a real job." Meanwhile a 17-year old teen cutie played by Kathleen Quinlan is smitten with him and at the same time he is reconnecting with a childhood sweetheart (played by Anne Archer) who is a single mom and ready to settle down. One of the things Elliot brought to the role was some real life experience with the subject matter as prior to this film he had his own struggles with whether or not he should stick with his true passion, acting. And while this film isn't helmed by a virtuoso director or even deserving of four or five star reviews, Elliot's performance is captivating and you will not be able to take your eyes off his charismatic nature though out this sweet drama. It's a great watch especially for a summer film, here's a link to the Amazon stream or check your favorite movie source. You'll be glad you did and might just find yourself drifting back....so what's wrong with that?
